We created this gem for an exhibition with works by Jean-Louis Dulaar.
We needed a refined console under one of his works and picked a superb piece of chicken-wing wood from our collection and decided to apply our look-mommie-what-we-can-do-finish: French Polish.
We normally never recommend this finish as it is quite a fragile affair: any water or alcohol drop will leave marks and unfortunately not easy to restore as experts in this technique are becoming extinct. (should you be interested in learning more on this technique, check the ‘creating’ section of our site.) French Polish is a magnificent, yet very labour-intensive, technique which brings out the ‘grain’ of the wood in all its glory and ensures a high gloss finish. Think French period furniture.
We would only advise this technique for Kunstkammer-furniture, delicate furniture, not used daily: not for dining, not for working. Place your favorite art or two on top and don’t touch, but marvel in awe…
To supplement the high gloss we opted for our PT25 sand-cast bronze base, polished.
If we scared you way; rest assured we can offer other alternatives for this finish which are easier to handle and have the looks to match. Just contact us.
