This is the third table of this type we ever made – check our ATOP section for the second; we unfortunately do not have photos of the first ever version…
This design came about after visiting a dear client who had asked our advise on an ideal table for his home, a stunning penthouse actually. He originally wanted a formal dining table, but it soon became clear that he actually never cooks at home, since he uses his condo only a few days every month. Upon checking the loft, I noticed one wall was completely covered with the most amazing whisky collection I had ever seen.
For some reason my mind immediately switched to “bar-table!!!”, a bar-like, bar-height table! He would invite his friends for an evening of …serious tasting whilst solving the world’s problems…
I’d see his friends all stand around the ‘bar”, one foot on the stretcher, one arm comfortably resting on the “bar”… whilst sipping golden drops of heaven from cristal tumblers ..my client was immediately sold! The “bar” too.
We then set out to adapt our PT4 base, which is normally table-height, to perfect bar-height. For this particular table we joined five beams of reclaimed Makha Tae hardwood, which we sourced form a woodshop specialised in buying old Thai Houses. The wood – we were told – comes from a demolishe 80 somethinh year old rice-barn from the outskirts of Ayutthaya.
While our first tables had the base in Bronze polished we requested Armando, our bronze-master, to create a version in Polished Aluminium.
This is the result.
